Jeanie Marie Buss is an American businesswoman from the United States. She is the owner and director of the Los Angeles Lakers National Basketball Association. Buss is an California native, and was raised by a wealthy family. Jerry Buss' father was an entrepreneur in real estate who later owned the Lakers and several other companies in the field of sports. In the event that her parents divorced in 1972, she was convinced that they'd abandoned her. In 1972, at age 19, she began working for the family's business. Then she founded the Los Angeles Blades team of professional roller hockey. She first served as vice president of Lakers before taking on the position of president of the Great Western Forum. Her father died in 2013, and the control of the Lakers was transferred to Buss as well as her siblings via a trust for the family with each sibling having equal voting rights. She assumed the office as president of the Los Angeles Lakers. Buss has also been a part-owner of Women of Wrestling (a Los Angeles-based pro-wrestling organization).
