Take Me Home Country Roads was Denver's first Top 10 Hit as a Solo Artist following his time with small folk groups. The song was written with Bill Danoff. Danoff was credited with Johnny Cash as the inspiration for the track, however Denver recognized that the song could turn into a hit once the song was first heard by him. After performing the song in Washington D.C. to a massive crowd, Denver released the song a couple of days afterward.
