Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens better known as Queen Latifah is an American performer and actress. Her career as a musician actor, filmmaker and TV performer has garnered the actress the distinction of two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Image Awards. She also received an Grammy Award and six other Grammy nominations. Queen Latifah was born and lived in Newark New Jersey the daughter of Rita a schoolteacher who worked in Irvington High School and Lancelot Owens Jr. a police officer. Latifah's mother and father divorced at the time Latifah was ten years old. Latifah was a student at a Catholic school and received her education in Newark New Jersey. She was a member of the Baptist church. Latifah refers to gentle and kind. Her cousin gave it to her when she was 8. Latifah is who was 5'10" tall power forward on the high school team, was always a tall girl. The song she performed was "Home" from The Wiz in the course of a show at her highschool. Latifah began to beatbox with the women's fresh rap group. Latifah is among the original members of Flavor Unit, which was at that time a collective of MCs around DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King recorded an example of the rapper Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. The recorded was sent to Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music signed Latifah upon hearing the track. The singer released her debut single Wrath of My Madness, in 1988.
